About this tool
The Braille translator turns text into Braille, shown with Unicode Braille characters you can copy, and gets the text back from Braille. It follows the uncontracted (grade 1) tables of French, English (Unified English Braille, UEB), German and Spanish Braille: accented letters, capitals, digits and punctuation specific to each language.
For French, digits can use the Antoine notation recommended in France or the traditional notation. A six-dot keyboard lets you type Braille cell by cell, dot numbers can be shown, and a PNG image of the dots can be exported, normal or mirrored for slate and stylus writing.

How to use it
- Choose the Braille language.

Frequently asked questions
Is Braille the same in every language?
The basic letters are shared, but accented letters, digits and punctuation depend on the language: choose the language of the text.
What is uncontracted (grade 1) Braille?
Braille written letter by letter, without the contractions of grade 2. English Braille is usually contracted, so grade 1 text is longer but readable by every Braille reader.
How are numbers written in Braille?
In English Braille, the number sign ⠼ is followed by the letters a to j for the digits 1 to 0. A grade 1 indicator separates a number from a following letter a to j.
Can I emboss this Braille?
Unicode Braille text can be sent to a Braille embosser through transcription software. The PNG image is for display, not embossing: for a document meant for a blind reader, have it checked by a transcriber.
