About this tool
The Morse code translator turns text into international Morse code, written in dots and dashes, and gets the text back from a Morse message. Letters are separated by a space and words by a slash, as in written Morse; when decoding, typographic dots and dashes copied from other sites are accepted.
You can listen to the message at the speed you choose, from 5 to 40 words per minute, with Farnsworth spacing for learning and adjustable tone and volume. A light follows the signal, your phone can vibrate to the rhythm and the sound downloads as a WAV file. The full Morse chart lets you hear each character with one click.

Frequently asked questions
How are letters and words separated in written Morse?
Each letter is separated by a space and each word by a slash, for example “... --- ... / .-- ---”. Without separators a message cannot be decoded reliably.
Are there accents in Morse?
The international standard only includes É. Common codes exist for À, Ç, È, Ñ, Ö or Ü; otherwise the letter is sent without its accent.
What does words per minute mean?
It is based on the reference word PARIS: at 20 words per minute a dot lasts 60 milliseconds. Farnsworth spacing only lengthens the pauses between letters and words, to learn letters at their real speed.
