About this tool
This tool renames dozens or hundreds of files in one go: holiday photos, invoices, scans, camera exports… You build the new name with a template that can reuse the current name, a number, the file’s date or time, the original folder or the extension, and the preview shows the result for every file right away.
Add a find and replace (plain text or regular expression), change the case, remove accents and special characters, replace spaces and standardise the extension. Duplicates are numbered automatically and characters Windows forbids are removed. Since a browser cannot rename the files on your disk, you get either a ZIP of renamed copies or a small script to run in the folder to rename in place.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t the tool rename my files directly?
For security, a website is not allowed to change the files on your computer. The generated script does the renaming in place when you run it yourself in the folder.
Is the script safe?
It only contains rename commands (ren on Windows, mv on Mac and Linux) for the files in the list, without deleting or overwriting anything. You can open it in a text editor to read it before running it.
What is the ZIP limit?
The ZIP is built in the browser’s memory: beyond about 1.9 GB, use the script.
Are my files uploaded?
No, everything happens in your browser.
