Dithering & Pixel Art Studio
Turn a photo or a video into retro-flavoured pixel art: pick a dithering algorithm, a palette and a look (pixels, dots, bricks, LED or voxels), then download the result.
About this tool
This studio shrinks your image to a pixel grid between 16 and 480 pixels wide, then limits it to a colour palette using dithering: the technique of old screens and printers that recreates shades with patterns of dots. You choose from 15 methods, from error diffusion (Floyd-Steinberg, Atkinson, Jarvis, Stucki, Burkes, Sierra) to ordered dithering (Bayer matrices, dot screen, blue noise), and you adjust strength, brightness, contrast, gamma and saturation.
Palettes range from black and white to the 216 web colours, by way of handheld console greens, retro PC colours, sepia and riso tones, and an automatic palette can be extracted from your image; every colour stays editable. The result can be drawn as square pixels, round dots, studded bricks with a parts list per colour, an LED screen or isometric 3D voxels. Videos are processed frame by frame and export to WebM, images export to PNG at up to 24 px per pixel or to vector SVG, and everything stays in your browser.
