About this tool
This free percentage calculator puts four everyday calculations on one page: X percent of a value, what percentage one number is of a total, the percentage increase and the percentage decrease between two values. It is useful for shop owners, restaurants, students and anyone working out a discount, a price rise, a change in revenue or a simple proportion.
Each calculation has its own block with X and Y fields and a Calculate button. The result comes with the formula used, for example (Y − X) ÷ X × 100, so you can check it or redo it by hand. You can type a comma or a dot as the decimal separator. The tool flags inconsistent input, such as a final value lower than the initial value when calculating an increase.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage increase?
Work out (final value − initial value) ÷ initial value × 100. For example, going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase. The Percentage increase from X to Y block does this and shows the formula.
How do I work out 20% of a price?
Use the X % of Y block: enter 20 as X and the price as Y. For a price of 50, the result is 10, that is 20 ÷ 100 × 50.
